We got a request from a very special client to do our own interpretation of a wool rug she had seen in a client’s home.
She wanted the inside of the rug in white 4″ x 4″ tiles, while the rest had to be done in wide borders of white and gray.
We started by sketching the possible rug as to make sure we had the right amount of patches to get to the right size, exactly as she needed it.
After we were all on the same page with the size, the style and the widths of each “border”, we started selecting the right hides for this rug.
It had to be pretty plain, without high and low tones and variations, especially with the gray hides. As we only work with natural hides, there’s always some variation between the hides, and also inside a hide itself.
Once the selection was done, we cut the inside 4″ square tiles as we usually do, but all the white and gray borders had to be cut by hand, so the result is a truly unique and completely handcrafted, yet super neat patchwork cowhide rug.
We live for details, and this one had many! We did a double stitch on the outside border to finish it nice and perfect, exactly as our designer client wanted it.
We love customizing rugs to suit everyone’s needs, and that’s exactly what we did here!
