There’s something desirable and luxurious about touching a soft hide every now and then. Maybe it’s just the softness of the hair, or the inheritable human need to look at -and touch- pretty things… but maybe it’s the fact that a leather area rug is an actual usable work of art that you can afford and have at home every single day, for good.

I decided to start blogging with a bang, so it was obvious, what else would I start to talk about if not about our own precious leather area rug designs?

Almost every week we plan a new design, trying to give our designers more styles, more designs, new patterns, more ideas… Some work and some don’t, we learn and get frustrated, but it’s all part of the process, right?

If you ever had the glorious and mind-blowing chance to make a decision on how a place, thing, piece of clothing or even a dish will look, you’ll enjoy this list filled with patterns, colors and textures.

The Classics

I will have to divide this section into several micro-sections as there can’t be just one “classic” valid for everyone, but these are our most popular, talked about and -why not- loved, patchwork cowhide area rugs

1) Stripes

These leather area rugs made in different widths of strips and stripes that give direction and more texture than you could ever imagine. They form an overall visual comforting look. I wish I knew how or why this happens every single time, but I’d rather leave it to my instincts and not so much to reason:

2) Squares

Our squares range from tiny 2” tiles to giant special 28” square tiles. A leather area rug made in squares fits mostly any kind of decor. They look elegant no matter the size of the tile. We even managed to cut some entire rugs by hand to get to the desired tile size. That’s total passion right there!

3) Cube

The Cube Rug was born from the idea of looking at a 3-D see-through cube. The result was one of our most popular leather area rugs. It’s elegant, has incredible fall when placed on the floor and the big center square gives you a large patch of pure hair-on-hide to admire.

4) Chevron

The Chevron (or Herringbone) design is not only one of the most beautiful things to look at, but also the missing link between a classic and a modern design. The “arrows” give direction subtly and will always be the centerpiece of a room when used correctly.

5) Diamonds

Nothing says “luxury” as well as the word “Diamond”, right? (Well, maybe “champagne”, but we’ll leave that one for later…)
And these are not the exception. Our Diamond patchwork leather area rugs are elegant, luxurious, delicate and durable, rustic and tough at the same time… Can you believe that? They’ve got it all. Really.

6) Moorish Star

Stars and crosses. The Moorish Star was inspired by ancient patterns, drawn and transformed over and over, looking for that perfect balance between playfulness and elegance. This is one leather area rug that won’t be soon forgotten by anyone who lays eyes on it!

Contemporary Vibes

7) Envelope

The Envelope was designed exclusively for one of our favorite interior designers, but it soon became greatly popular. The big patches, the earthy tones, the glorious fall and sturdiness of the leather made this area rug an instant hit. Add the little delicate border and you have a real piece of art, right there at home.

8) Bricks

These Subway Style tiles come in every imaginable hide color, but the usual golden tones used for this rug take away the hardness of the rectangles and adds the softness we always love to see on our leather area rugs.

9) Laberinto

The Laberinto patchwork cowhide area rug was designed by Carlos Mercado for a very special client. We made many tests and trials, got inspired by Hermès, and finally came up with this beautiful rug that will lighten up any room, no matter how big or small, it oozes elegance and luxury.

New Kids on the Block

10) The fantastic Toto Rug

We couldn’t be more thrilled about this one. Designed by Margaret McEver, completely made and controlled by Shine Rugs. Many great ideas edited into one fantastic, vibrant, modern pattern, finished with a wide hair hide border that sets the entire piece in place. A total keeper

11) The Kata Rug

Special, delicate, playful… Lovely medium sized triangles made in the finest cowhide for a beautiful leather area rug. The edge stripes are finished with a special, larger triangle that keeps everything in place.

We made a special version of this one in 12” base triangles as one of our custom jobs. Piece of cake!

The Customs and The Specials

We customize every single one of our rugs, so sometimes we get a special order. And boy, we love it when the creative juices start running and flowing. But of course, we only do it for… each and every one of our clients.
