I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Taupe is THE color. I’m obsessed with how good it looks everywhere, how soft and warm it is and still does not look overly sweet, nor too girly.
It’s a tone that covers all your plans: if you’re a gray lover, taupe will not disappoint with its warmth.
If you’re Team Beige, taupe will definitely elevate you to a new level of coolness with its subtle playfulness (#BeigeIsTheNewGray)
Even though Taupe falls in the “neutral” color category, it’s a hard one to define. With bits of brown and gray and a whole array of undertones, it can be warm or cooler, depending on the amount of red or green hues in it.
A Pantone color scheme really makes this clear:
Taupe can make and will never break your style, so even if it seems a “vanilla” or plain tone to go for at times, it can be infinitely creative.
It’s the perfect tone to pair up with wood, metals and even bold colors.
Got kids? It’s a great tone to give warmth to a nursery or room without it being too overly sweet.
And if your kids are teens, well, there’s a great array of taupe tones to give their room a bit of elegance without losing the playfulness of a proper “kid” room.
We’ve gathered some tips to help with the selection of a rug when working with taupe, bronze and brownish colors. We find these help a lot:
Tip 1: Give it some zazz
Simple and calm decor can definitely benefit from a complex pattern.
Adding some texture to a relaxed room can give you a lot without compromising your style.
We are true believers that this texture and patterns can come directly from your rug, adding a lot to a room without being too explosive and aggressive.
Our Patchwork Cowhide Rugs are -of course- a great example of this, as the natural tones from the cowhide are mixed with simple, medium and more complex patterns to allow them to fit into any kind of decor, always adding texture, direction and style to a room!
Tip 2: Reflections on the wall
Cowhide hair reflects and refracts a lot of light, so your walls and furniture will affect the final tone of your rug gracefully.
This is an effect that is made very clear with white cowhide rugs, but it includes all cowhide colors, as it’s the hair itself that cathces the light -either natural light or artificial- and sends it back to your eyes, creating a visual effect.
Tip 3: Bitter it up a bit
If you’re going with earthy and girly colores, tone down the extra sweetness with a geometric pattern such as a Classic Stripes Path owhide Rug in Taupe, Gray and Cream tones.
This will cut down the cutness by mixing hard, geometric shapes, with soft colors.
Tip 4: Just go for it
As we always like to say, make it your own! It’s your decision, and as much as one can read and get tips, tricks and information, it all comes down to where and how you like your home to look like.
You are the one and only judge of your space, so don’t let yourself get intimidated by all the data. Let it flow and let your feelings decide 🙂
