Custom projects, I love them.
When a client comes to us with a fresh idea, it’s always a thrill and I get all excited to get my hands on it and make it come true.
One of our favorite interior designers that we work with a while back asked us for the first time to add a simple border to one of our classic Striped patchwork cowhide rugs. We settled on the right, proportional and balanced size of the border and she was so right, they look amazing!
The border adds a nice look to the perpendicular stripes, especially if your rug will be placed with this edge facing an entrance or if you won’t be placing any furniture to this side of the rug.
Of course, if you are choosing the size of your rug as to go under your furniture, for example, under a sofa, you’ll never need a border!
The border will most likely add a nice touch, but does it help in any way, function-wise?
Not really. In some other designs and patterns a border helps to visually finish the rugs, while making them more tidy and neat. But when it comes to Stripes patchwork cowhide rugs, the border won’t add a functionality. The Stripes fall perfectly once they are installed, the edges have their own stitches which help the patches stay in place forever and the rustic and ever changing look doesn’t need to be framed in any way… Unless that’s exactly what you’re looking for!
I really like the delicate look of the fine borders. They add the finishing touch, which of course suits some very particular decor styles.
